“The
Biggest Small Town Celebration in Otter Tail County”
The third Saturday of each August
finds our town buzzing with activity as we celebrate our annual
Watermelon Day Event! This
tradition was started in 1972.
Vining will be celebrating the 30th anniversary
of Vining Watermelon Day on August 17, 2002.
Between 70 and 100 Arts and Craft vendors
arrive to sell their wares. Popular
food items are available all day from vendors and local groups. Watermelon is served free!
Other activities include:
special musical entertainment, children’s games, a
Petting Zoo for children, Bingo, at 7:00 p.m. parade and a dance in
the evening.
The population of Vining is small, but folks
in the surrounding area and lakes volunteer and help make the
events of the day possible as Vining will host from 3,000 to 4,000
people for the day. The
Watermelon Day Committee, the Area Booster Supporters and all the
workers are proud to be able to continue this fantastic tradition.
We’re happy to welcome so many folks to our town for this
event.
